I created Analog Grammar primarily out of frustration. I am a high school English teacher in a U.S. state ranked 50th in education, and a large number of my students were very unfamiliar with basic grammar. They felt intimidated by the more technical and advanced aspects of English, and it prevented them from being able to catch errors in their own writing or understand why they were errors. They were missing a big chunk of their core language education, and it left their teachers scrambling to pick up the slack.
For most of us, our last grammar and spelling lessons happened a long time ago. As working adults, we trust in the automated checkers in our word processors or sites like Grammarly to correct our errors. But as these systems grow more unreliable and polluted by generative AI text, they are no longer trustworthy failsafes. Fortunately, we can the job of checking grammar and spelling ourselves if we re-learn its fundamentals and create our grammar from scratch.
Analog Grammar is geared towards English-speaking adults who want to reduce their dependence on grammar and spell-check softwares. You don't have to memorize lists of participles or know every irregular verb tense by heart, but you will get reminders on basic English grammar structure and guidelines to follow. You can complete the full curriculum or choose only the lessons and skills practice that you need. No generative AI is ever used to make these lessons or assignments.
